VE Report
1 Technician and 1 Extra
Next session is March 2nd

Winter Field Day
Setup went well.
There were two end-fed half-waves in a perpendicular configuration.
Only four stations this time, in a diamond configuration so people could see each other.
There were visitors of varying ages and licensures.
All of the radios were operated off a battery rather than a generator - approximately two-thirds of the battery was consumed.
Lessons learned will be applied to Summer Field Day.
There was a magnetic whiteboard used for sign-in and in/out tracking.
Band conditions were "OK", but we made roughly the same number of contacts as last year.
There was a noise generator which was located and shut off, which improved the noise floor.
We like the Christiana Town Hall very much.

Upcoming Classes
The last weekend of March - 30-31 - there will probably be a Technician Class class, as there has been sufficient interest expressed.

Brad WB9WHI hid in the parking lot at Warner Park.  The hunt began at 15:01 local time.

After a delightful detour through the UW-Madison campus, Brad was located at 15:42.

We adjourned to the Culver’s on Northport Drive to enjoy some lunch, some frozen custard, and to swap lies.

The next hunt will be October 26th at 15:00.  Gather in First Business Bank parking lot, 401 Charmany Drive (just southwest of the intersection of Mineral Point Road and South Whitney Way), at the east end of the parking lot.

Teams Participating:

  • Thomas AC9BJ and Nico

Brad WB9WHI hid on the top floor of the Capitol Square South Ramp.  Brad transmitted using a fraction of a watt, which was weak but detectable at the start point. Due to one-way streets and a lack of non-metered public parking, Thomas and Nico were unable to physically visit the transmitter, but correctly identified its location within an hour.

We adjourned to the Culver's on West Beltline Highway to enjoy cheap frozen custard, hot food, and to swap lies.

The next hunt will be November 24th (Thankgiving weekend).

Teams Participating:

  • Thomas AC9BJ and Brad WB9WHI

Given that the August monthly hunt occurs in the same month as the Annual Trophy hunt, the participants agreed to waive the usual hunt limits, and make this a county-wide hunt. Nick KB9SKW hid in a field just south of Indian Lake County Park.  The signal at the start point was weak, but detectable using SSB.

The September hunt was cancelled, so the next hunt will be October 27th.
