ARRL Field Day

ARRL Field Day is a national event that brings together amateur radio operators to1 demonstrate wireless technology’s ability to connect people. The 2026 theme is “Amateur Radio: A National Resource”.

Every June, more than 31,000 radio operators throughout North America set up temporary transmitting stations in public places to demonstrate ham radio’s science, skill and service to our communities and our nation. It combines public service, emergency preparedness, community outreach, and technical skills all in a single event. ARRL Field Day has been an annual event since 1933, and remains the most popular event in amateur radio.

For more than 100 years, amateur radio has allowed people from all walks of life to experiment with electronics and communications techniques, as well as provide a free public service to their communities during a disaster or emergency, all without needing a cell phone or the Internet. ARRL Field Day demonstrates ham radio’s ability to work reliably under any conditions from almost any location and create an independent communications network.

This year, members of the Four Lakes Amateur Radio Club will participate in ARRL Field Day alongside radio operators from across North America. We will use this opportunity to practice emergency communications readiness and provide demonstrations to the public and local organizations. We expect attendance from state, county, and local officials as well as community members interested in emergency preparedness.

ARRL Field Day will be hosted at Schumacher Farm Park in Waunakee Wisconsin.

On the morning of Saturday, June 27th, FLARC members and volunteers will begin setting up multiple antennas and radios to transform the park into an emergency communications center.

We will be fully operational by 1:00 PM and will continue to operate non-stop for the next 24 hours until Sunday afternoon.

Making a return this year will be a Get on the Air station. This is an opportunity for any newly licensed amateurs, generally inactive licensees, and non-licensed individuals to experience firsthand the excitement of amateur radio by allowing them to get on the air and talk to other operators participating in ARRL Field Day.
